Welcome to Swim Team!
Welcome to the 2025 Mountainbrook Wild Things summer swim team! We look forward to another exciting season of swimming! Below is some information to help get you oriented to swim team for the summer. Please read through the details below carefully and let us know if you have any questions!
- Swimtopia App: Our Swim League uses Swimtopia to manage all meets and events. You used Swimtopia to register your child for swim team. Make sure you download their app (the free version is fine)! You will use the Swimtopia app and website to RSVP to events and meets, and we will send out messages and alerts to you via the app. If there are any weather delays or cancellations for practices or meets, you will be notified of those via the Swimtopia app.
- Swim Team Kickoff Party: Please join us for the Swim Team Kickoff Party! The party is this Sunday, May 18 from 2:00-4:00 PM. Pizza and Lemonade will be provided! The pool will be open only for coaches, swim team members and their families. This is a time to mingle, meet your coaches and ask any questions that you have about the upcoming season. Please RSVP as soon as possible so we have an accurate count for ordering pizza. The deadline to RSVP is Thursday, May 15 - please respond via the Swimtopia app or on our swim team website under Meets > Meets & Events.
- New Swimmer Evaluation: In order to provide the best experience for our swimmers, we require all swimmers age 8 and under who are new to the Mountainbrook Swim Team to complete a New Swimmer Evaluation. We require all swimmers to be able to swim one length of the pool unassisted. The coaches will evaluate your swimmer on the day of the Swim Team Kickoff Party (May 18). You are invited to arrive early to the party (1:30) or stay after the party is over (until 4:30) in order to complete the evaluation. I will send out a separate message with more details to parents of swimmers who are required to participate in the New Swimmer Evaluation.
- Team Swimsuit: Our team is using the TYR Hexa Black and Blue suit again this year. A representative from Keifer Aquatics will be at Mountainbrook this Sunday from 1-3 PM for a suit fitting. They will have the suits on-site to sell (credit cards only). They also will have goggles, towels, bags and other swim team accessories available for purchase. So please come early to the kick-off party to get your swimmer fitted for their team suit! If you are not able to come to the suit fitting, you can purchase a suit on our website or at the Keifer Aquatics shop at SwimMAC. Just let them know you are with Mountainbrook and they will make sure you get the correct suit!
- Practices: Daily practice begins Monday, May 19. Refer to the schedule on our website to determine your swimmer’s practice time. A parent or guardian is required to be on site for practices of swimmers age 8 and under.
- Picture Day and Time Trials: Thursday, May 29 will be Picture Day and Time Trials! There will not be regular practice that evening. All swim team members will have a chance to have an individual photo taken beginning at 5:00 and we will take a team photo at 5:30. I will send out photographer information prior to picture day. Time Trials will take place immediately following the team photo and is for age 7 and older swimmers only. Time Trials is a “mock meet” and is a chance for all swimmers to swim in each individual event and establish a seed time to prepare for the first swim meet.
- Swim Meets: Meets begin June 2 and occur on Monday and Thursday afternoon/evenings. The schedule is on the website. We will send an email prior to each meet with specific instructions and arrival times. It is important (and lots of fun!) for all swimmers to attend as many meets as possible! You will need to declare your swimmer’s availability for each meet. WE WILL HAVE STRICT DEADLINES FOR DECLARING MEET AVAILABILITY AND LAST MINUTE CHANGES WILL NOT BE ACCOMMODATED!
- Once practices begin, we will open the meet sign ups in Swimtopia. We will send a notification when it’s time to declare your swimmer’s attendance for a meet.
- Relay Carnival: You may have noticed an additional event on our Meets and Events schedule - this year the GCSL is holding a Relay Carnival for each Division! A Relay Carnival is a meet with all teams in our division competing in various relay races. This is new to our league this year, so we are going to try it out and see if our team likes it! Details about the Relay Carnival are on our website. We will be able to bring 40 swimmers from our team and a few volunteers, but will be limited to this number due to deck space for all 6 teams to be at the pool. This year’s Relay Carnival will be hosted by The Reserve on June 17th. We will ask you to declare availability for this meet, but participation will not be guaranteed until the coaches create the relay teams. This meet is optional and will not count toward a swimmer’s eligibility for All Stars or for the Team’s standing at the end of the season. It’s just for fun! I will send out more details as the date approaches.
- Volunteers: Our swim meets cannot run without volunteers! Each family is required to volunteer for at least 2 volunteer sessions per swimmer (max of 4 sessions per family). 1 session is the length of ½ a meet. (example – if you have 2 swimmers on the team, a parent is required to sign up to volunteer for 4 shifts throughout the swim season).
- The volunteer positions are listed on our website. The volunteer jobs are now open for registering on the Swimtopia app!
- If you are interested in attending a training session for Stroke and Turn Judges, the GCSL is hosting a training this Sunday, May 18 from 1-3 at MSA on Tom Short Road. Please let Amanda know if you’re interested in attending!
- Code of Conduct: Be sure to review the Code of Conduct with your swimmer prior to the beginning of the season.
We are excited for another fun summer swim season at Mountainbrook! Please reach out to any of the volunteer committee members or coaches with questions!
